Freedom from sin requires us to fight, a fight we need to be spiritually equipped for since it isn’t against flesh and blood but against the rulers and authorities of the darkness of this world (Ephesians 6:11 – 12). Our armor consists of the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, foot straps of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Which piece of armor do you have the most difficult time remembering to equip? Why do you think it is?
Our enemy, the Devil, is constantly looking for ways to attack us. We see in Matthew 4:3 – 10 that he even came after Jesus three times before giving up (although he would eventually be back). Where in your life are you feeling like the Devil is attacking you?
Nonbelievers often feel like being a Christian is too restrictive, but in reality, we have freedom as followers of Christ. Freedom from sin that you can’t get except through Jesus. Take a moment to think through an area in your life where you’ve gained freedom from what was once a stronghold, and celebrate God’s work. Take three minutes to worship God for what He’s delivered you from.
These are some great questions! It's difficult for me to wear various pieces of armor in certain situations. Walking in peace can be tricky when I feel overwhelmed. It can be challenging to apply that practically without using churchy language. The other piece ties in with question two, but it's the sword of the Spirit. Being abused taught me that my voice didn't matter, so it's a fight to speak out sometimes. That can be speaking the Word into a situation, saying scriptures when the devil sends mental attacks, or simply talking at all.
